MAMA-KANGAROO 003
1. What year did you give birth? - 2008. 2. In which town and hospital? - Kragujevac Clinical Centre 3. Did anything unpleasant happen to you in the hospital? What? Did anybody insult you? How? - I suffered no unpleasantness from the staff. On the contrary, they were all very kind, from the gynaecologist Dr. Varjacic who admitted me for delivery to Dr. Folic and Dr. Sazdanovic who delivered me. I was in labour from midnight till morning so I “covered” two staff shifts. Midwives from the night shift brought me water, gave me mobile phone to talk to my husband and were there for me all the time, while one of them told me how beautiful I was and sweet talked to me like to a little child. I don’t know what else nice to add about that woman named Jovanka. Head Nurse Sneza made rounds in the morning and came to check women even after childbirth. Absolutely dedicated person and a serious professional. 4. How were you addressed in the hospital? By your name and last name, or some nicknames? Which ones? - They addressed me by name or name and surname. 5. Were there any problems with the accommodation or with the medical equipment? What sort of problems? - There was no light in the bathroom located next door to the room in which I was accommodated after childbirth, either in the toilet or in the shower room, so I had to take showers and use toilet with the door ajar. If I closed the door it was pitch dark. Also, the showers were in terrible condition. When I found a bathroom with light in it, there was no hot water, so I chose to rather have a hot shower in the dark than to have a cold one in the light. 6. When did you see your child for the first time after giving birth? How often did you see him/her? Could you see him/her whenever you wanted? - Baby was with me all the time, the baby friendly system functions perfectly. The first night after the childbirth, a nurse moved all three babies from our room to another room so that their mothers could rest, of course in agreement with us. 7. When did you breastfeed your baby for the first time? Were there any problems with breastfeeding? What sort of problems? - I breastfed my baby several hours after the delivery. I had no problems, because I had previous experience with breastfeeding. 8. Did you ever happen to doubt the expertise of the doctors and other medical staff? When and why? - I never doubted expertise of the doctors and I did not have any reasons to do that. 9. Did you ever doubt whether some of the hospital protocols and rules were justified? Which ones? Why? How would you change them? - I had no such doubts. 10. Did you have to bribe anyone? If yes, whom (you can state just his/her title, without a name)? What for? How much? - I did not bribe anyone, I’m even very sorry that I did not thank all those wonderful people in a nice way. Maybe this is a good way, since I am truly grateful. 11. Do you have any other impressions or comments that you consider important? - This is
my second delivery experience. The experience of my first delivery has been
completely different, except for the strong commitment and professionalism
of doctors – I’m glad that the majority of staff on this clinic has been
replaced with better professionals. It is also my opinion that the working
conditions of these people are not on the same level as their commitment.
