MAMA-KANGAROO 107
I have been reading all these experiences of yours and I really don’t know what to say except: Terrible! First time I gave birth it was November 2003 and the second one was January 2008, both times in the Uzice hospital. I didn’t share your experiences, except for the few little difficulties at the first birth, which was why the baby ended up in the incubator for a short while. When my doctor came, everything was alright. Before that, the baby simply wouldn’t come out even though my water had broken. Thank God, I had a vaginal birth, 24 hours later, but with epidural. The second time, this remarkable obstetrician, Dr. Rade Markovic, knowing that I had a history of difficult delivery, advised me to take epidural again if the same situation like the first time repeated, in order to avoid making mistakes and so that neither the baby nor I would suffer. So, that’s how it was. I lay on the table for 8 hours, but once the pains started, after 2 hours I got the epidural block and after a while I felt the birth contractions and soon the baby came out. The first time I had terrible pains almost all day long. The epidural block finally helped me, because I had no strength left to push the baby on my own. The second time was a piece of cake. The Uzice hospital is a very tidy place. The showers are clean, the nurses are pleasant. Now… It is my opinion that the way they treat you depends on your behavior. I met several women who found faults with everything. For goodness sakes, it’s not a hotel. I also saw those who complain about the inept. All the doctors were mainly pleasant, more or less good experts, but you have the right to choose your doctor. There is a baby friendly program and it works really well. The neonatology staff are wonderful, sincere and good experts. As for the midwives and food – well, that’s how it’s supposed to be so that the milk would be good for the baby and it’s also beneficial for the health of the mother. And nobody openly or otherwise asked money from me. So, I appeal to all of you who had bad experience not to be quiet when you go there, ask about everything, don’t let them get you and be perseverant in this program so that all the doctors’ scum would be ditched and replaced by people like my doctor. Way to go! Keep up the good work!
Comment of the mama kangaroo 050: Dear Krugolina, I’m sorry I didn’t have a photo camera at the time (I wasn’t allowed to bring even the water in, let alone the camera) so that I could be able to record it all. But the statements, I quote: “For goodness sakes it’s not a hotel” and “Let me just add at the end that we, the women, should not be “hairsplitting” all the time. If a nurse is kind and selfless, well, she didn’t kill us if she addressed us by “mother”; it will not be the end of the world if for three days we don’t sleep in “silken sheets”, nor will any of us starve during the stay in the hospital without caviar and strawberry and cream!” made my blood pressure go through the roof not to mention my feeling like an idiot. What Uzice hospital are they talking about and who are those women in fact? I would really not want to sound paranoid and create conspiracy theory, but I sincerely doubt the truthfulness of the confessions of the said mama-kangaroos and I wonder what the trick is. Sincerely yours, (Mama Kangaroo 050, 9th December 2008)
