My story is a positive one and quite the opposite from the ones we have heard about. I gave birth twice, in the hospital of Surdulica, both times having C-sections ( not my decision). I have such good memories of the Hospital and it’s maternity ward. Neither I knew anybody who worked there, nor they treated me as a special case. I am originally from Belgrade and I married a man from Surdulica. Both of my pregnancies were overseen by the gynecologist of my choice. I gave birth with the C-section, for the first time in 2005 and everything was normal; they brought my baby to me, as soon as I woke up from anesthesia. The wonderful nurses and midwives were helpful during my recuperation assisting me every time it was necessary, especially with the baby who was often with me. I was enthusiastic and as I stated before, neither I, nor my family, had to bribe anybody. After that good experience with my first delivery, I had my second baby in 2007 and just like the first time, everything was fine; the staff even remembered me. I might have forgotten all the staff’s names, but they were all excellent. I don’t blame the doctors for the hospital’s procedures since they also find them to be ridiculous. With these positive experiences in mind, I am planing to have another child here, and not in the renowned hospitals of Belgrade. The provinces have many well trained hospital staff. I salute this movement and I hope to hear more positive stories such as mine.
