MAMA-KANGAROO 643
This way I would like to offer my support for your action, and also to point out that women have a choice regarding giving birth, even here in Serbia. I apologize for the grammar mistakes- I am foreign, but I’ve lived here long enough to know what the delivery would be like in Belgrade hospitals. The “mama kangaroos” stories on your website leave me speechless. I gave birth twice in Belgrade- both times at home (in 2006 and 2008). In the country I come from, it is a normal and acceptable way for a woman to choose to deliver her child. Researches show that home delivery is as safe as it is in a hospital, even in the US- not to mention here. After I had seen what happens at maternity wards, I realized that I want NOT ONE of those things happening to me. I don’t want hospital protocols causing such problems (I mean routine induction, episiotomy, enema, etc) which lead to EVEN MORE interventions. I don’t want my baby taken away from me after birth and done God-knows-what to him. I don’t want a doctor to take away my humanity. So, I gave birth at home, my babies and I enjoyed those first magical moments together, peacefully, naturally. This option exists too, and I hope that it will be available in the future in Serbia - home deliveries with midwife’s assistance, covered by state health insurance - as an option for every woman who has a normal, healthy pregnancy.
